Canadian poker player Glen Chorny hailed as the victor at the 2008 European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final hosted by PokerStars.com at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort.  Chorny outplayed 842 players

The illustrious EPT Grand Final held in Monte Carlo has been won three years running now by poker players from North America.  North American winner Jeff Williams claimed first prize in 2006 and Gavin Griffin took home the first prize winnings in 2007.

Chorny headed into the final table of the tournament Thursday as the chip leader with 3,370,000. Isaac Baron from the United States headed in with 2,365,000.  One of the most exciting hands of the final table involved those very two players.  It happened midway through the final table, with play still at 4-handed.

On a flop of 6s 2c 7s, the young Chorny would end up betting out.  Baron contemplated his next move, thinking carefully of how he wanted to proceed.  As the time went by for what seemed like ages, an impatient Chorny would request the tournament director to the call the clock on Baron.  An all-in move shortly thereafter by Baron – also known online as “westmenloAA” - had Chorny showing his monster of hand- pocket aces!  The A-Q Baron held was no match against the Rockets of Chorny, sending the online phenom to the rail in 4th place (Baron was touted as the favorite in the EPT and many thought of him as the best player of the tournament).

Twelve hours of play had Chorny taking a huge lead over Hungarian Denes Kalo heads up.  Chorny, with a 10-1 chip lead, moved all-in with Ah 5h and found him slightly ahead of Kalo’s Kh Qd.  Glen Chorny would end up winning the fourth annual EPT Grand Final, with the board of As Qs 6s 6c Td giving him Aces up and the victory.  Oh yea, he also took home nearly $3.2 million in U.S. dollars!
