Interesting Poker Hand

Just finished a $20 sit and go and need some of your expert opinions on how i played a hand. The blinds where at $50/$100 i am on the button. It is 5 handed, from the original 6 players. All of us have a relatively similar stack, it is folded to me. I raise to $300, and get a flat call from the big blind. The flop comes down 3,7, J all of clubs. My opponent makes a very quick check, fearing the 4th club coming i place a bet out for 400 into the $650 pot, after a long pause he finally called. The next card was a 4 of hearts. He then immediately pushed. I hesitated for 5-10 seconds and called. He showed 5-6 off suit.

Do you think i played this correctly? Was it possible to get away from?

You have described a couple of fairly reliable tells for online poker. When your opponent checks quickly, that usually indicates he is on a drawing hand. When your opponent pauses for a long time and then calls your bet or raises, that usually indicates he has a big hand (but was not the case here–he was on a weak draw). As always, this isn’t 100% of the time. But observing the betting patterns of your opponent can help you determine if he is following standard betting patterns.

I do not know what your hand was, but it really doesn’t matter. Unless your opponent had some type of read on you, the call from the BB was bad. So was calling to a gutshot with a flush on board. He got luckly to make a straight on the turn.
