Day 5
Today started better then yesterday, started with the 25cent-50cent tables on Ladbrokes after an hour i was up a modest $10, so i left the table with around $60. I always buy-in the maximum amount, surely its a disadvantage buying in anything less. With the maximum amount at the table you have the chance to make more money with premium hands. Also i like to “read” someone who enters the table, and normally i notice people who buy-in the minimum are normally looking for a “quick” double through.
Shortly after this cash game i played a few $10 heads up, i won 2 of these and lost the final game i played. This game me another healthy profit, and made me realize how much money there is to be made from heads up sit and go tournaments.
After this confidence boost i decided to play in a $3 rebuy tournament, obviously i can afford to play larger limits then this but i wanted to try and improve my Rebuy strategy, which will hopefully come in useful when i play the larger tournaments in a few months. I played fairly loose in the first hour and managed to end the hour with 6200 chips, with a starting stack of 2000. I used a re-buy once during the first hour, those of you who are unfirmiliar with re-buy tournaments basically they allow you to pay the entry fee again as many times as you want during the first hour and you get the amount of chips you started with back. Which means there is a lot of chips in play and this normally means skill prevails more often then a freezout tournament. You also get the chance to purchase a “add-on” which allows you to add the starting chips, 2000, to your stack at the end of the first hour. There was 120 entrants and i ended up finishing 15th which i deemed a success as this was my first re-buy tournament on Ladbrokes and sites do take time to adjust too.
