DominateOnlinePoker.Com Site Review

Filed under: Poker Site Reviews — at 2:32 pm on Tuesday, April 29, 2008

DominateOnlinePoker.Com is part of a growing tend of poker sites primarily based on offering high quality online poker strategy advice.

My first thought on entering the index (home) page was the amount of bright colours used. The yellow was a little to bright for my liking and took the focus off of the content, the most important part!

Whilst navigating the site i came across a page on Cash Game Strategy the strategy given is of a very high quality nature and implementing strategy directly from this guide will improve the majority of players games. Although i would possibly increase the size of font used as it is on the small side at the minute.

DominateOnlinePoker.Com offers new players the chance to obtain a Free Poker Bankroll this will be hugely beneficial for new poker players so i advise new players reading this to take advantage of the exclusive offers provided on this page.

Brandi Hawbaker Death

Filed under: Poker News — admin at 5:22 pm on Thursday, April 24, 2008

In a tragic ending to a tumultuous life, Brandi “Rose” Hawbaker committed suicide on April 13th, 2008. It has been reported by her friend and former boyfriend Brandon Gerson that Hawbaker suffered from a “very serious untreatable mental illness.” Hawbaker had also been trying to seek the help she desperately needed the past year and a half from several doctors. It has been reported that The Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed that her body was found Sunday, April 13th in a residence in the 8700 block of Pershing Drive in Playa Del Rey, California. The autopsy that was performed ruled her death as a suicide.

Not a lot was truly known about Brandi Hawbaker. There was always much mystery surrounding Brandi and about her veiled past. Supposedly she left home at the age of thirteen because of a troubled childhood and began travelling the world doing odd jobs for food and shelter. According to Hawbaker’s own statements, she returned to the US in 2005 after a summer spent in Guyana. Ending up in Los Angeles, California, she became intrigued with the world of poker.

One of her very first poker tournaments was the Spring Pot of Gold where she placed 9th and won $655. This first taste of poker winnings led her to a No Limit Hold’em Super Satellite Event for the World Poker Tour Festa al Lago where Hawbaker finished in 17th place with winnings of $10,000. When Brandi played in the The Main Event for the WPT Festa al Lago and finished 35th with $20,875, it was thought she may have the right stuff to become the next up and coming darling of poker. She played in her last poker tournament on June 6th, 2007, the 38th Annual World Series of Poker Event #10, where she placed 55th and won $8,359.

Unfortunately, eccentric behavior mixed with much drama had Hawbaker the brunt and target of many internet forums. Hawbaker not only read all of drama surrounding her but also participated in it as well trying to tell her side of the story. Her attempts, however, were futile, as it just perpetuated things even further and led to even more vicious attacks on her character.

Perhaps in hopes of seeking a fresh start and a new life, Brandi Rose filed a name change petition with the courts on January 11, 2008 and changed her name to Naami Dea. There were also reports that she was trying to convert to the religion of Islam.

It’s disheartening that Brandi Hawbaker could not find the help she desperately needed and seeked. What makes it even worse is that although she was obviously trying to reach out for help, certain members in the poker community would never manage to let up on her. Continually slinging negativity at her, to the point of things being publicly written that she should commit suicide is inconceivable. No matter what sort of drama or turmoil she was in or allowed herself to be a part of, it was apparent that Brandi Hawbaker was a troubled young woman. It’s a sad commentary when young women are made to feel that in order to get ahead in a so called man’s world (i.e. – poker), that they need to exploit themselves. What is even sadder is that certain people feel the need to exploit troubled young women in order to further themselves or things they are involved in.

Glen Chorny Hails as Victor at 2008 European Poker Tour Grand Final

Filed under: Poker News — admin at 1:19 pm on Monday, April 21, 2008

Canadian poker player Glen Chorny hailed as the victor at the 2008 European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final hosted by PokerStars.com at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort.  Chorny outplayed 842 players

The illustrious EPT Grand Final held in Monte Carlo has been won three years running now by poker players from North America.  North American winner Jeff Williams claimed first prize in 2006 and Gavin Griffin took home the first prize winnings in 2007.

Chorny headed into the final table of the tournament Thursday as the chip leader with 3,370,000. Isaac Baron from the United States headed in with 2,365,000.  One of the most exciting hands of the final table involved those very two players.  It happened midway through the final table, with play still at 4-handed.

On a flop of 6s 2c 7s, the young Chorny would end up betting out.  Baron contemplated his next move, thinking carefully of how he wanted to proceed.  As the time went by for what seemed like ages, an impatient Chorny would request the tournament director to the call the clock on Baron.  An all-in move shortly thereafter by Baron – also known online as “westmenloAA” - had Chorny showing his monster of hand- pocket aces!  The A-Q Baron held was no match against the Rockets of Chorny, sending the online phenom to the rail in 4th place (Baron was touted as the favorite in the EPT and many thought of him as the best player of the tournament).

Twelve hours of play had Chorny taking a huge lead over Hungarian Denes Kalo heads up.  Chorny, with a 10-1 chip lead, moved all-in with Ah 5h and found him slightly ahead of Kalo’s Kh Qd.  Glen Chorny would end up winning the fourth annual EPT Grand Final, with the board of As Qs 6s 6c Td giving him Aces up and the victory.  Oh yea, he also took home nearly $3.2 million in U.S. dollars!

PokerStars European Poker Tour Grand Final Seat Payouts were as follows:

1.  Glen Chorny w/ $3,193,822

2.  Denes Kalo w/ $1,864,116

SNG ITM Play

This is the final article in a 4 part sit and go strategy guide. By reading all 4 articles, Sit And Go Overview , Sit And Go Early Play , Sit And Go Bubble Play , Sit And Go ITM Play you should have a good grasp of how to play winning poker in Sit And Go Tournaments.

If you would like to further develop your skills further read our review of Sit And Go Pro

Ask any poker player what they’re favorite poker tournament is, and inevitably it comes down to one they cashed in! One of the easiest types of tournaments to cash in would have to be single table Sit n Go’s. The payment structure is so that you have to spend very little time playing in the tournament, and only usually have to finish in the top two for a six handed game, and top three for a full ring game to cash. These are very popular and often you will see Sit And Go Tournaments fill up in minutes, or even seconds at some online poker rooms. Once you are in the money, your play will change dramatically. It is important to be aware of the chip stacks of the other players at the table, because this will often be a major influence in both how they and you play. If you notice a player seemingly just happy to be in the money and shoving every hand, you have to tighten up a bit, and vice versa. One strategy that seems to work well is to play aggressive against the largest remaining stack, because generally they are just going to protect that big stack and try and cruise to a heads up battle.

Again, it is extremely important to be aware of hoe the other players at your table are playing. If and when you get to a heads up situation, your play will change to another gear. Suring heads up, you should try and detect betting patterns by your opponent, pressuring them when they seem weak. Test the waters a bit, if they are willing to fold to small raises, then you know they are playing tight. Heads up is where you should be applying all the information you have acquired throughout the tournament and focusing it in on that one player. Heads up is not a great place to make stone cold bluffs, and it is recommend to not get a large amount of your chips into the pot unless you are sure you are pretty far ahead. The best poker knowledge you can obtain is done so through playing. Put your self in situations to win and in the long run you will come out ahead. Sit n Go’s can be a very simple way to boost your bankroll if played properly.
