Lesson Learned

Filed under: Poker Challenge — admin at 6:41 pm on Monday, July 23, 2007

Yesterday night as i sat at my pc playing 2 cash games on carbon poker, i learnt probably one of the most important lessons i could, don’t tilt. Titling is when you play when you really shouldn’t be, normally after a bad beat. You go after your “lost” money by playing stupidly, normally overly aggressive. I did this, but luckily it wasn’t very costly for me and i only lost $30 or so, but it did put me back behind the $2000 mark.

Why did i tilt?

I tilted because i raised preflop $2 at a 25cent/50cent table, i held Ace-King the flop came down Ace-King-4 holding 2 pairs i elected to raise $3 in to a $4.75 pot. I was called, then the next card showed a 7 again i raised $7 again i had a caller, the board didn’t show a flush draw. The river came a 9, now there was no chance of him holding a straight or a flush, i bet another $11 into the pot, only to be called by pocket nines, ouch. So then i hit the lower limit’s knowing i wouldn’t be playing my best.

Today i played much better and will keep that for the next update, probably in a day or two.

Bankroll At $2000 Finally

Filed under: Poker Challenge — admin at 9:48 am on Tuesday, July 17, 2007

The title pretty much explains what this post is about, i have finally turned my $1000 into $2000, still another $998,000 before i reach my goal, but doubling my poker bankroll is an achievement in itself! I reached this last night whilst playing heads up sit and go tournaments on CarbonPoker.

I played the $10 and $20 tournaments which went successfully with 4 back to back wins. Before yesterday my entire bankroll; carbon poker, ladbrokes poker and neteller combined stood at around $1900, but with a good winning day yesterday i managed to finish with $2012.

My next plans for turning this $2000 into $3000 involve;

  • Testing out the $30 heads up tournaments.
  • Playing in some larger MTT’s, probably with a buyin of $20.
  • Experimenting with the 0.5/1 cash tables.
  • Trying to play on some other poker sites.

I tried to calculate the amount of hours i have been playing so far, and it worked out around 200 in total, which means i am averaging $5 an hour, which seems very high for these stakes i am playing, maybe i have got lucky so far. Remember to bookmark this site to watch me try and achieve the next milestone.

Day 34/35/36/37

I just wanted to post another quick update before the tournament i am entered in starts, 27 minutes away as i type this. I have stuck to heads up sit and go’s over the last couple of days, as i find these the most profitable games for me at the moment, i even tried a couple of $20 ones, resulting in a win and a loss.

I am concentrating on $10 and $5 ones at the moment, and playing a couple at a time, which take’s a bit of getting used to, but i find it more profitable even though my game is poorer when playing 2 tables, the amount i win increases as playing two tables counter-balances the small decrease in the skill level i play at.

Day 31/32/33

Just another quick update for those that are interested in my bankroll mission. I haven’t had much success in MTT’s over the last few day’s, i entered a few small buy-in tournaments (less then $10). I have managed to keep my bankroll around the same level with a few head’s up sit and go wins. I entered the $5 heads up tournaments and luckily managed to win 5 on the trot, which really helped fund my multi table tournament habit.
