General Guides on Bankroll
As a general guide for how big your bankroll should be, a commonly accepted figure is for it to be at least 10 buy-in’s  at the level that you are playing at. If you are playing $0.50/1 games, your bankroll needs to be $1000.00 plus, in my opinion. Some people claim you need more, while others claim you need less. While the above is considered a good guide, there are other factors to take into account when calculating bankrolls that are influenced by the type of player you are and your game of choice.

Bankroll and the Type of Player You Are
If you are a tight player, then you will probably not need as much money as a player who is involved in many pots. This really is down to individual style of play, and an aggressive player should think about having a bit extra to play with because they will obviously use a lot of continuation bets etc. My style loose aggressive requires more $$ then most people as i put in a lot of bets and play a lot more hands.

BankRoll and the Game You Play
Another factor when determining the size of your bankroll is the type of game you play.If you play limit ‘holdem the bankroll you need is much lower then what is needed for no-limit holdem.

Day 10 - Steady, Steady

Well after the disasterful day before, i re-assessed my bankroll and the play i made. I came to the conclusion, it wasn’t a bad play, i wasn’t outplayed, my hand was a good hand but his was better, should he of called a raise with ACE-5? Now thats debatable anyway, i would beat him if he continued calling raises with that type of hand.

Well i move down again to 25cent/50cent, and played for a few hours and re-couped a little i lost from the previous day, $22 in all. Not many hands to comment on really, played fairly solid for me, only playing premium hands, (Pairs, ace-king,ace-queen,ace-jack,ace-10,king-queen etc.) And focused on my positional play, playing suited connectors only from late position, to maximize the chance of “knowing where i am” in a pot.

Anyway, i will keep you all updated on the latest news on my quest, may even post again if any interesting hands come up today.

Day 9 - Not So Good

Filed under: Poker Challenge — admin at 7:13 pm on Thursday, April 26, 2007

Well yesterday started well, like usual, but ended not so well. I started playing my normal style, loose yet aggressive at a $0.50/$1 cash table on ladbrokes. Playing suited cards from most positions. I was feeling good about my game, took down a few posts from check raise bluff’s and a few river bets with middle pair, which saw my $100 turn into $158. Then disaster hit. I played one of my favourite hands, Ace-King from middle position with a raise to $4, with 2 limpers behind me. I had 3 callers, more then i would of liked. The flop came Ace - Jack - 5, a great flop. I raised to $16, and was re-raised to $40. I called after a little debate, but thought Ace-Queen would probably make that move, wanting to push me of the pot. The turn brought a 3, again a great card for me. Surely pocket 3’s would fold on the flop? The board was 2 hearts, 1 diamond, 1 club. I held ace spades, king of hearts. I bet the turn for $45, and was pushed all in, pot committed i called. The river was another 5. He turned over Ace-5, and had me beat. After this i decided to leave the game for the day, i really didn’t want to tilt, and thought i would continue the next day with a positive mindset.

Day 8 - Going Strong

Filed under: Poker Challenge — admin at 1:27 pm on Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Well, sorry for the short wait for this post, I’ve been pretty busy recently, but thats not stopped me from hitting the virtual tables hard. Well this is going to be an update for the past couple of days, but i still have 4-5 hours of play time left today so I’ll update that tomorrow. I have been playing the $0.50/$1 No-Limit tables over at ladbrokes for the past couple of days, and have done really well, to my surprise. I played fairly loosely limping with suited connectors and was getting paid when i hit some well disguised straights. I won my largest pot to date, $98 with a straight against 3 of a kind, which i played aggressively, instead of the typical trap plays. I then jumped in to a $10 heads up, which i lost, after a fool i played repeatedly went all in every hand, maybe he had to go? Well anyway i called when i had pocket 4’s and he showed 9-5, was a coinflip which sadly he won, but don’t worry i peppered him with abuse via the chat box, lol.

Well thats all i can really remember i played fairly late into the night. Check back tomorrow for a “proper” update and hopefully i will finish writing a couple of articles i have recently started.

Day 7 - Getting There

Filed under: Poker Challenge — admin at 9:56 am on Sunday, April 22, 2007

Today i decided to try out the $1/2 limit action at Ladbrokes. I started out playing a couple of 6 man tables, if i was playing no-limit i would of stuck to 1 table, but limit action seems to be much slower then no-limit action. I started very well, considering this was a move up in limits and a different holdem variation then the no-limit action I’m used to. I made $18 in the first 20 minutes at one table, there was some extremely loose players, raising with low pocket pairs and continuing the betting action after the flop, which they’d rarely hit.

I played a lot of high cards, and could down on the amount of “flush chasing” I would do. I didn’t feel i would get paid even if i hit a flush, so went against that. This is something a lot of players seem to do, chase draws against pot-odd’s and implied odd’s, which i will talk about later.

Anyway 2 hours later after playing 135 hands at 2 tables i made a measly $12. Tomorrow I’ll hit the no-limit tables and see if my lucks in.
